Solar Powered Battery Pack

Overview

During the summer of 2020, I realized I had a lot of time to myself so I decided I wanted to learn more about circuits and electrical engineering. I decided to build a few different projects one of which being this solar powered battery pack that I could take camping. I was able to use it at a few campouts with my Boy Scout troop and it worked great. I collaborated with my electrical engineer friend and teammate from FIRST Robotics, Kiran Swami.

Project was built using a Buck Converter, Solar Panels that were made for starting Car Batteries, and assembled on a Perf Board. I designed a 3D printed housing that held all the soldered components together and housed 3 feet of retractable wiring so the solar panel could be mounted on top of the tent away from the charger. This was my first time soldering ever, and I think I did a pretty good job!

Some of the features that make it unique are that you can detatch the solar panel and put it on top of your tent while having the rest of the case and your phone down in your tent. You can also coil up the wire and use velcro to attach the case to the panel for easy storage.
